DA-IICT invites applications

Mumbai: The Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DA-IICT), Gandhinagar, () is all set to enroll its second batch of students in its four-year undergraduate programme in information and communication technology. The institute, promoted by the Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation at the instance of the Gujarat state government, was opened for admission in the last academic year.

The four-year programme has been designed to provide the best of conceptual knowledge and practical application skills in core areas of information, communication and multimedia technologies. The programme also emphasises an understanding of the business and social environment so that the application of technology is better appreciated and students broaden their perspective.

Admission to the programme will be through a national entrance test, which will be held across 32 cities all over India on 12 May 2002. A limited number of seats will be offered to foreign nationals and Indians living abroad though a separate channel called direct admission of foreign students. Candidates who will have completed or expect to complete their 10+2 years of schooling in the science stream by June 2002 will be eligible to take the test.

The information brochure and application form for the course will be sold through select branches of Canara Bank between 24 January and 39 March 2002. It can also be procured from Educational Consultants India Ltd (EdCIL) by sending a demand draft for Rs 600 drawn in favour of Educational Consultants India Limited and payable at New Delhi. The last date for receiving the completed application form is 6 April 2002. The entrance test result will be announced on 31 May 2002. The classes are scheduled to commence on 24 July 2002.

On successful completion of the four-year programme, the institute will award its own graduate diploma in information and communication technology. The level and content of the programme are at par with any BE/BTech programme. DA-IICT is hopeful of obtaining the status of a university in due course. On becoming a university, DA-IICT will award the BTech degree.

In addition to the undergraduate programme, DA-IICT will also offer a wide range of educational, training and research programmes in information and communication technology at certificate, postgraduate and doctoral levels, and continuing education programmes for working executives, practicing professionals and government officials.

The education methodology at DA-IICT comprises lectures, self-study, online learning, tutorials, lab work, assignments, projects, research, internships guest lectures, seminars, debates, continuos evaluation, examination and personality development programmes. This methodology recognises the importance of multidisciplinary learning to develop information and communication technology experts with a well-rounded personality and multifunctional skill-base.
