RCom Q1 net profit up 3 per cent at Rs162 crore

Anil Ambani group company Reliance Communications (RCom) has posted a 3.2 per cent rise in its fiscal first quarter (April-June 2012-13) net profit, at Rs162 crore on a consolidated basis, compared with a net profit of Rs157 crore recorded during the same period a year ago.

During the quarter under review, the company's revenues rose to Rs5,319 crore, up 8 per cent, compared with Rs4,940 crore posted during the same period of the previous financial year.

"RCom generated operational cash flow of Rs1,650 crore in the first quarter. This is the second full year of positive free cash flow for the company and this trend will continue in succeeding years," RCom said in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

The company's EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) was up 3 per cent at Rs1,650 crore, as against Rs1,602 crore posted during the same period of the previous year.

The Mumbai-based company's revenues per minute (RPM) stood at 43.1 paise, while it continues to be free cash flow positive.

In comparison, the country's largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel's profits for the quarter ended 30 June 2012 were down 37 per cent at Rs762 crore on a consolidated basis.

Idea Cellular, a part of the Aditya Birla group, reported a 32 per cent rise in net profit at Rs234.1 crore for the same period.
