Reliance Energy-CAF Consortium awarded Delhi airport metro express line (AMEL) project

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd has awarded the airport metro express line (AMEL) project to the Reliance Energy-CAF Consortium on a build-own-operate basis (BOOT) basis for a concession period of 30 years.

The proposed 22.7km of high-speed metro rail is intended to connect New Delhi Railway Station with the New Delhi International Airport via Connaught Place. Accoding to project developer Reliance Energy, the rail link would be developed with the latest technology to make the project comparable with the world's best.

The project was awarded through global competitive bidding. The estimated project cost is about Rs 2,500 crore; the project is scheduled to be operational in July 2010.

The Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company is already implementing the Mumbai Metro Line (Versova - Andheri - Ghatkopar) in Mumbai in association with Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
 
Reliance Energy and its affiliates are also engaged in mega projects including the ultra mega power project at Sasan.

A large number of new mega infrastructure projects are also soon being put to bid, to provide further impetus to the country's rapidly accelerating economic growth.
