Petronet LNG has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Delhi government for supplying gas in New Delhi in order to ensure adequate power supply in the capital in time for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The pact envisages supply 6-million metric standard cubic metres per day of LNG to Delhi's three gas-based power plants from 2009.

The gas would be used for Bawana plant and Pragati II, both of which are expected to be commissioned early 2010. The third beneficiary would be Indraprastha Gas' plant whose 330 MW unit has been operating below par due to lack of gas.

The government hopes that with the steady supply of gas and the timely commissioning of all proposed projects, there would be a change in Delhi's power scenario.
