NTPC April-June net rises 13 per cent to Rs2,076 crore

Public sector power major NTPC Ltd has reported a 13 per cent increase in its fiscal first quarter net profit at Rs2,076 crore. Net sales during the quarter rose 9.5 per cent to Rs14,171 crore.

"Pending determination of station-wise tariff by the CERC, sales have been provisionally recognised at Rs1,281,933 lakh during the quarter ended June 30, 2011 (corresponding previous quarter Rs1,193,111 lakh)," NTPC said in a regulatory filing.

NTPC, which has a total generating capacity of 34,854 MW, also reported a 12 per cent increase in its fuel cost during the quarter, which rose to Rs9,750 crore from Rs8,700 crore in the year-ago period.

NTPC, the largest power generating company in the country, has also diversified into hydropower, coal mining, power equipment manufacturing, oil and gas exploration, power trading and distribution.

NTPC recently mopped up $500 million through an international bond issue as part of efforts to tie up funds for its upcoming projects. The company has also signed a Rs10,000-crore loan agreement with the State Bank of India.
