NTPC will set up a 1320 MW coal-based thermal power plant in Gujarat to meet the growing power requirement of the state. A meeting to review the modalities was taken in New Delhi today.

The Gujarat government has given in-principle clearance for setting up the project in the surplus land available at the existing Dhuvaran plant of Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL).  The proposed thermal power project will have two units of 660 MW working on super critical technology utilising domestic coal blended with imported coal.

NTPC is initiating the site-specific studies for establishing the techno-economic feasibility of the project. The feasibility report of the project is likely to be ready by March 2011.
