Mumbai: NCR Corporation today announced that the state-owned state Bank of India had placed an order for 3,800 automated teller machines (ATMs) - the largest Indian order for the Georgia-based company.

NCR said ina statement that n addition to order for the ATMs, SBI had also signed a seven-year ATM services contract, from NCR, thye world's largst maker of  ATMs.

SBI operates over 15,000 ATMs deployed across the county, including 10,000 NCR machines, making it the bank with highest ATM penetration in India.

As part of the contract, NCR will undertake ATM deployment, site implementation services (SIS), second line maintenance (SLM) and managed services for SBI. The SLM contract extends to the next 7 years ensuring that SBI ATM's are available to its customers at all times.

The order includes ATMs equipped with DVSS (digital video surveillance systems) to counter frauds.

''The recent Reserve Bank of India guidelines on third party ATM usage limits consumers to a maximum of five transactions and withdrawal limit of Rs10,000 per month," said Pradeep Sen, NCR, managing director for India.

Sen added, "This guideline would significantly benefit banks like SBI who have higher ATM penetration as it allows them to seek additional revenues via transaction fees from non-bank customers who continue to use ATMs that are closer to their work and home. This new order reiterates our long-standing partnership with SBI, who continues to value our self-service technologies to better serve their customers by making formal banking services available when and where they want
