Mumbai: MTNL's customer-base crossed the 5-million in February 2005. MTNL also topped the list of new GSM connections in Mumbai in February 2005 with 54,257 new GSM customers accounting for 45 per cent of all new GSM mobile connections — way ahead of Bharati, Hutch and BPL Mobile, as per the figures released by the Cellular Operators Association of India.

The growing demand for MTNL's GSM services (Dolphin and Trump) is attributed to reduced tariffs and new features like GPRS, MMS and WAP based services and a host of new SMS-based services after its network expansion.
