Maruti quality chief adjudged Outstanding Quality Man 2002

New Delhi: Dr K Kumar, advisor (engineering), Maruti Udyog (MUL), has been awarded the Bajaj Auto-NIQR Award for Outstanding Quality Man 2002. The award is conferred on Kumar by National Institution for Quality and Reliability (NIQR).

Dr Kumar heads quality assurance, service and engineering operations of MUL and has the automobile company's efforts in achieving the first position in JD Power's Customer Satisfaction ratings for three years in a row.

He also spearheaded company-wide initiatives that led to ISO 9002 certification for MUL and also for several vendors.

A graduate in mechanical engineering from Delhi University with a PhD from IIT-Delhi, Kumar moved from the Indian Railways to join MUL as senior deputy general manager and rose to the level of director (engineering) before being invited to serve in the current position. He is also the first president of the Society of Automobile Engineers, India.
