Time magazine has adjudged Motorola's Droid the 'gadget of the year'.

The title which was won last year by Apple for the iPhone is expected to boost Motorola, Verizon which offers the device, and the Android platform as a whole.

According to Time, the Droid won for its free turn-by-turn GPS through Google Maps Navigation, for its 3.7-inch touchscreen and for its hardware QWERTY keyboard.

The latest version of the iPhone, the 3GS came in at the fourth place while the Barnes and Noble Nook took the second. The Dell Adamo XPS took the sixth place.

The Motorola Droid is yet to launch in the UK but should start shipping from etailer Expansys anytime soon under the 'Motorola Milestone' moniker.

However, there are reports from US of Motorola Droid smartphones being vulnerable to attacks by a pretty bad bug which deletes all contained messages and the attack persists even when the account is set-up again.

The bugs attacks mainly corporate e-mail accounts, a serious pretty serious problem, however according to iEncyclopedia contacts and calendars still remain on the Droid phone. Droid owners report that POP and multiple Exchange accounts disappear for reasons they do not know leaving them with no alternative but to re-enter them.

The problem has so far defied a solution on attempts to sort it out themselves and have urged Verizon Wireless to take action at the earliest. Users say when e-mail accounts are re-entered they work for a couple of weeks before they are wiped clean again.
