Even as 3G in India remains a distant dream with government policy fluctuations and delays forever shifting the goal posts, Motorola is reportedly gearing up to do a trial run of 4G in the country.

The company is set to approach the Department of Telecommunictions (DoT) for allotment of spectrum on a trial basis for testing LTE (Long Term Evolution) services in India. However, analysts say the 4G implementation could end up jeopardising government plans to raise Rs35,000 crore through sale of spectrum for 3G services.

They add that there could be some interesting developments on this front in the near future.

They also point out that with LTE we could see the emergence of data speeds up to 70 Mbits /s - speeds that are not available even on broadband networks at present.
