Microsoft reveals lineup of Windows 10 devices

Microsoft has revealed a lineup of Windows 10 devices including its first laptop, Lumia smartphones, a new Surface Pro tablet and an updated version of its wearable fitness tracker, Microsoft Band.

The software giant is looking to expand its market share for tablets and smartphones, currently dominated by Apple and South Korea's Samsung Electronics.

According to Microsoft, its laptop, the Surface Book, will start at $1,499 and is twice as fast as Apple's MacBook Pro. It will go on sale from 26 October, with pre-orders starting today.

The laptop features a 13.5-inch display with 267 pixels per inch and comes with a glass track pad.

According to Microsoft, whose shares rose to 0.6 per cent at $46.89 at midday, 110 million devices are now running Windows 10.

Of the three phones it unveiled at an event in New York, the Lumia 950 and 950XL will have starting prices of $549 and $649 respectively when sales open in November, while the Lumia 550 will carry a price tag of $139 when it becomes available in December.

The Lumia 950 has a 5.2-inch display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with hexacore CPUs, while the Lumia 950 XL has a 5.7-inch display and a Snapdragon 810 processor with octa-core CPUs.

Lumia 950 XL features are larger 5.7-inch display with WQHD OLED panels, Gorilla Glass 4.

According to Microsoft the display for both phones come with additional features like orientation sensor, Sunlight readability enhancements.

The Lumia 950 XL comes only in 32 GB option with 200 GB supported on microSD.

Lumia 950 XL packs a 20 megapixel camera with a 5 megapixel wide angle camera for the front.

According to commentators while Lumia might appear to be ahead in terms of megapixels, it had tough fight ahead in the camera space.

Microsoft has not yet given any indication of the price at which the Lumia 950 XL would launch in India.

The Lumia 950XL is priced $649 for 32GB storage variant which worked to around Rs50,000.
