Microsoft has joined hands with state-owned China Electronics Technology Group to support the configuration, deployment and maintenance of localised Windows 10 for Chinese users in specialised fields in government institutions and critical infrastructure state-owned enterprises.

Microsoft announced that Baidu.com would become the default search and homepage for Chinese users in the Microsoft Edge browser in the Windows 10 operating system.

Meanwhile, Baidu said yesterday that it was working with Microsoft on a way to upgrade the country's massive number of aged Windows XP PCs to Windows 10.

In a short Q&A posted on a page devoted to Windows 10, Baidu noted that Windows XP machines could not currently run Windows 10.

According to commentators the answer that Baidu posted in response to a question about the upgrade gave the feeling that Baidu was trying figure out a way around the limitation.

"Currently Microsoft's official message is that temporarily cannot support a direct upgrade to XP systems Windows 10," said Baidu's answer translated by Google Translate, to a Can-I-upgrade-from-XP-to-10 question.

The translated output from Systran, a South Korean company read: "At present the Microsoft official information is, temporarily cannot support the XP system to promote to Windows directly 10."

According to commentators, the word "temporarily" hinted that the ineligibility of Windows XP was not permanent.

The next sentence via Google Translate in Baidu's response to the question made that clear: "We are working with Microsoft to seek negotiated solutions."
