Skype service restored after 15 hour outage

Many Skype users took to Twitter using hashtags like #SkypeDown to share their woes on Monday after the found they could not use the service.

Meanwhile, Microsoft, owner of Skype, claimed due to the current technical problem, users were not able to make calls. Furthermore, despite being online, the technical fault showed them offline in their contact list.

The last word from Skype was that the services had been fully restored after users faced the problem.

According to the company it was working to fix the issue and apologised for the inconvenience.

Numerous reports about Skype being offline had started in the early hours of Monday.

Skype said users could experience delays in seeing changes made to their accounts, such as credit balance and profile details. ''A small number of messages to group chats are not being delivered, but in most cases you can still instant message your contacts''.

''We're in the process of reconnecting our users, and focused on restoring full service''.

Skype added that the problems had not affected customers who used Skype for Business, a paid-for version of the service.

Skype made no official disclosure about how many of its 300 million registered users were affected by the glitch, but said in its Monday tweet, ''We're pleased to say we've found and are now rectifying the Skype problem you may have had today''.

The problem had been reported by Skype users around the globe, especially in the UK, US, Japan, and Australia.

Skype said, Monday, its services had returned to normal after a 15 hour outage.

The problem with the service had impacted a lot of users that relied heavily on Skype to communicate around the world. ''Affected users will not be able to change their status, their contacts will all show as offline and they will be unable to start Skype calls to them''.
