Maruti hits 100,000 unit monthly sales mark for the second time in fiscal

The Indian units of Suzuki Motor Corp and Hyundai Motor Co on Monday posted higher vehicle sales for July in an expanding Indian economy, an increase in disposable incomes and new models continued to push purchases.

According to the country's largest auto maker by sales, Maruti Suzuki India, total car and sport-utility vehicle sales overshot 100,000 unit mark for the second time. The company's reported vehicles sales at 100,857 units were up 29 per cent from 78,074 units a year earlier.

'This is the second time in this fiscal that the company's monthly sales figure has crossed 1 lakh mark. Domestic sales in July 2010 are also the highest ever domestic sales in a month,' company said in a statement.

The company's A2 segment comprising car brands like Alto, Wagon-R, Estilo Zen grew by 33.2 per cent. Its A3 segment that includes cars like D'zire and SX4 sales were up 13.7 per cent as against sales in the corresponding period of previous year.

Maruti's A1 segment which included cars like Maruti 800 saw a decline of 39.9 percent in sales which stood at 1,680 units as compared to 2,796 units in the same period of last year.

Local sales in July were up 33 per cent to 90,114, the highest-ever in a month beating the previous high of 90,041 units recorded in May this year. Exports were up about 2 per cent to 10,743 units.
