PC maker Lenovo Group Ltd has launched a global wireless service for its mobile devices aimed at cutting costs for its users at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.

With the service, called 'Lenovo Connect', users would be able to travel in upto 50 countries and use their devices at local prices on mobile internet, without installing new SIM cards, according to Lenovo's statement.

The service could be offered through Lenovo's mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) business, which currently has 11 million users globally, Reuters reported.

Lenovo would make the service available soon in China on its LeMeng X3 smartphone and MIIX 700 tablet. The service can also be availed by people using Lenovo's ThinkPad laptops during the first quarter in Europe, Middle-East and Africa.

Lenovo designs, develops, manufactures and sells personal computers, tablet computers, smartphones, workstations, servers, electronic storage devices, IT management software and smart televisions.

Lenovo which was the largest personal computer company by unit sales in 2014, markets the ThinkPad line of notebook computers and the ThinkCentre line of desktops.

For years, roaming or extra charges for the use of telecoms services in foreign countries had drawn ire from consumers due to the high phone bills that they have to pay after returning home.

Meanwhile, the EU, had agreed to do away with mobile roaming charges across the 28-country bloc by June 2017, requiring telecom operators to treat all internet traffic equally.
