L&T's fiscal first quarter net rises 12 per cent to Rs746 crore

Engineering and construction major Larsen and Toubro has reported Rs746-crore net (after-tax) profit for the quarter ended 30 June 2011, a 12 per cent year-on-year increase.

Gross revenues grew 21 per cent to Rs9,578 crore during the quarter ended 30 June 2011 on the back of a healthy order book and superior execution of jobs, the company said.

Despite an overall moderation in industrial growth momentum, the company added orders worth Rs16,190 crore in the current quarter, taking its order book to Rs136,172 crore as of 30 June 2011, L&T said in a release.

Interestingly, major orders for the company during the quarter came from buildings and factories, infrastructure, power generation, transmission and distribution, minerals and metals and hydrocarbon sectors.

The engineering and construction (E&C) segment achieved gross revenues of Rs8,018 crore for the quarter ended 30 June 2011, posting a growth of 23 per cent year-on-year.

The segment succeeded in bagging orders totaling Rs14,416 crore during the quarter, taking the total order book for the segment to Rs133,739 crore as of 30 June 2011.
