LG Display offers tips for people wishing to purchase an LCD TV.

To start with, it says that the table measure should be more than the size of the LCD TV for ventilation and connection access.

While choosing an LCD TV, the screen size ought to be chosen based on the budget and floor plan. To illustrate, a 20-27 inch screen size should be seen from a minimum distance of 2 to 5 feet, 32 - 37 inch displays from 6 to 8 feet, 42-46 inch display from 10 to 14 feet and a 50 inch display from a minimum distance of 16 feet.

The native pixel count is another parameter to be looked out for, says LG. Choose an LCD with high native pixel count. A 23-inch LCD TV offers 1280x720 (720p) or 1366x768 (768p) native pixel resolution, which are the minimum pixel counts one should choose in an IPS (In Plane Switching) panel LCD television.

Motion response time, which determines the capability of an LCD TV to show fast moving images, should be amongst 6 ms, 8 ms or 12 ms.

Other factors to consider are contrast ratio, brightness rating and scaling.

Viewing angle is another aspect. To determine the viewing angle, view the LCD from the sides as well as from the prime viewing area. LCD TVs typically have a good side-to-side viewing angle, with many going as wide as 160 degrees, or about 80 degrees from the center viewing spot.
