The OP Jindal Group's flagship company Jindal Stainless Ltd has successfully acquired a 10-year contract for the second phase tender of Bus-Q-Shelters of the Delhi Transport Corporation.

The second build-operate-transfer (BOT) project will see the company build 400 Bus-Q-Shelters in Delhi, except in the NDMC area.

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) was founded in 1948 by the government of India under the aegis of the ministry of transport. Plying 3,106 buses on 773 routes, the DTC has 34 depots in seven regions, and operates around 5,000 bus stops, including 2,500 Bus-Q-Shelters. It has staff strength of around 30,000 people.

These shelters would be constructed to design specifications provided by the DTC, and would assure revenues to the DTC in excess of Rs4.5 crore per month from outdoor advertising.

Earlier, Jindal Stainless had completed the execution and installation of the first phase of 225 Bus-Q-Shelters in the national capital.

The 400 second phase Bus-Q-Shelters are to be built on key bus routes from the Dhaula Kuan hub to the inter-state bus terminus (ISBT), in a clock-wise direction. This will render a perfect public infrastructure view across the Ring Road stretch.

Stainless steel bus queue shelters for the general public have a natural sheen and aesthetic appeal, providing an international look to the bus shelter. These are being installed across Delhi's arterial routes with a view on the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2010.

The tender rule stipulates that the shelters would need to be constructed within a 48-week period.
