A day after the withdrawal of all promotional discounts, Jet Airways and its low-cost subsidiary JetLite today announced new Rs300 and Re1 basic fare schemes for 30-day advance purchases.

Passengers, however, will have to pay all applicable taxes and fuel surcharges.

These fares are valid for sale with immediate effect until 30 April on both carriers, Jet said in a statement.

Jet and JetLite had earlier introduced Rs250 and Rs9 base fares under a 21-day advanced purchase scheme as base price in the beginning of the year. The offer was valid for bookings until 31 January.

Jet Airways also announced a new daily service from Coimbatore and Kochi to Chennai. The new services will be same-day return flights on the Coimbatore-Chennai and Kochi-Chennai sectors with an all- economy seat configuration in ATR 72-500 aircraft.

From Chennai, passengers can connect to the airlines daily services to North America, Brussels, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Colombo.

On Tuesday, all major domestic airlines, including Jet Airways, had announced the withdrawal of all promotional schemes and instead raised basic fares between Rs1,200 and Rs2,200 on several sectors from Wednesday.

The fare hikes were unexpected since fuel prices have come down drastically since last year. The also prompted a warning from civil aviation minister to airlines against cartelisation.

Airlines, including Air India, Jet Airways and Kingfisher, had announced steep hike in basic fares across sectors. They said the decision was taken because of the low load factor despite the promotional schemes.
