ITC eyes IT

ITC Ltd., the tobacco major with interests in agro products and the hospitality industry, wants to expand in the infotech business.
An internal workshop presided over by Krishna Palepu of Harvard Business School studied suggestions about ITC stepping into the booming infotech business with an international business partner for a strategic tie-up. ITC has set up a think tank within the company to look into the potential of the IT market.
ITC already has an existing 15 year old company in IT, ITC Infotech, operating in the US and UK. ITC had entered the infotech scenario ahead of current favourites like Satyam, Pentafour or Infosys. ITC infotech, which is engaged in software services, is headquartered in UK and has a strength of over 200 professionals in its operations in UK and US.
An internal infotech division, the ISF (information system forces) division has a new new CEO in S Verma, taking over from AK Basu. The ISF division will be under the Executive director of the tobacco operations on the ITC board, Anoop Singh.
