India’s most valuable software company, Infosys Technologies Ltd., announced that it had Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) enabled its e-commerce platform for banks, BankAway, thus offering end-to-end mobile banking services.

By WAP-enabling their product, Infosys has allowed banks to offer the entire range of their services to all customer segments including retail and corporate customers, on any device that supports WAP. It is both Push and Pull enabled. Thus, customers can conduct all kinds of financial activities using any device that supports WAP, including mobile phones and personal digital assistants.

What WAP-enabled BankAway enables banks to do is send critical alerts and e-mails to customers, apart from offering routine banking functionality like account balance inquiry, transaction inquiries, de-mat account information, funds transfers and bill payments. Besides, the shopping feature in the solution enables customers to make payments securely while buying goods from WAP enabled Websites. The corporate WAP access allows banks’ corporate customers to monitor their corporate accounts, conduct limits inquiries and check on approvals and status of letters of credits, bills, guarantees, forward contracts, etc.

The company strongly believes that WAP is going to be a key driver of mobile-commerce across the globe in the next two years. As a result, every product / service that is being e-enabled will definitely have to be m-enabled. The company’s banking product, being both WAP and SMS enabled, offers its clients m-commerce features with minimal efforts. Further, the product’s architecture, enables banks to easily support new functionality or features across delivery channels, without having to write new code everytime, thus giving its customers critical "time to market" advantage.

The WAP enabled BankAway comes bundled with a WAP Server, thus providing an extremely secure solution which ensures an end-to-end secure connection between the WAP device and the WAP Server. The solution has further been engineered to utilize the display of the WAP device to its maximum potential and efficiently present relevant information to customers.

Infosys is one of the few vendors across the globe to offer banks such a comprehensive WAP solution. It provides bank customers with a complete financial experience right from day one.
