Noted UK business signs up Infosys for support systems

Sainsbury's Supermarkets, one of the UK's largest supermarket chains, recently signed a contract, valued at 28 million pound sterling, with Infosys Technologies. Sainsbury's is one of the most revered icons of the British business establishment, having been established in 1869. Employing over 130,000 people in over 428 stores, the supermarket chain has built for itself a enviable reputation for offering customers quality products at the best possible prices.
As part of this contract Infosys will establish its first European Proximity Development Centre in the UK. This centre will provide Sainsbury's with development and maintenance support for its finance, human resources, marketing and warehousing applications.
Commenting on the contract, Mr. Bob Hammersley, senior manager of IT services with Sainsbury's, stated that the company was delighted to be joining hands with Infosys. It believed that, being a CMM level 5 company, Infosys was the right partner in delivering a quality of service that it is best renowned for. As a result of this contract, Sainsbury's will be able to get high quality specialists to be deployed on its various strategic IT projects.
Infosys believes that this centre is an important step for the company. It will enable the company to be physically near its customers and work in the same time zone, thus ensuring quality delivery of its services. It hopes that this centre will also provide an anchor with other UK businesses.
