Infosys Technologies Limited has announced that it has been assessed at level 5 of the 'capability maturity model' (CMM) of the Software Engineering Institute of the US. The Software Engineering Institute evaluates software processes for development, re-engineering, and maintenance across enterprises, on a scale of 1 to 5. Level 5 is the highest.

Richard Knudson, principal, Global Systems Technology Inc, California, an SEI-authorised assessment organisation, said, "Infosys has exhibited a thorough understanding of the level 5 KPAs (key peformance areas) such as defect prevention, technology and process change management. Infosys rates the best among all level 5 companies I have come across when it comes to leveraging the CMM model to gain maximum business advantage."

"Level 5, which indicates a very high level of process maturity, has been attained by only around 1.5 per cent of software companies in the world. Process maturity is key to ensuring predictability of software solutions - the higher the maturity the more the company can be relied on to provide efficient solutions on time and within budget. Going forward, our challenge will be to push the boundaries even further," commentsd K Dinesh, director and head - quality, productivity, MIS, and HR, at Infosys.

About CMM Level 5
The 'capability maturity model' identifies levels of maturity of a software organisation. Level 5 signifies companies that are at a stage when they are optimising processes and are highly mature - they systematically use measurement and analyses to improve processes.
