IBM names Iris Computers as best server distributor

New Delhi: IBM Global Services India Pvt. Ltd. has named Iris Computers Limited (2004 turnover: $61.7 million), one of the largest IT distribution companies in India, with ''best distributor'' award for the IBM X-series server business for the year 2004.

In a ceremony held in Vienna, Shanker Annaswamy, managing director, IBM Global Services Pvt. Ltd., felicitated Sanjiv Krishen, chairman, Iris Computers with a trophy for generating sales revenue of about $10 million for IBM products. Iris has been the largest distributor of IBM products in North India for the past 17 business quarters.

As per IDC India, IBM registered a growth of 20.5 per cent year-on-year growth as in server sales, above the average industry growth rate of 16.5 per cent, providing a definite momentum to the Intel server market across the country. Iris Computers has registered a year-on-year growth of 195 per cent . Explaining its distribution strategy, Sanjiv Krishen, chairman, Iris Computers Limited, said, "We set up a ''war room'' environment tracking every single order across the country on a scoreboard. Faster communication between offices, personalised approach and call for action across regions is what keeps our sales ticking. Iris has always offered IBM ease of doing business with channel and execution of large orders."

Some of the major customers of Iris Computers include Arthur Andersen, Bank of America, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, BSNL, Citibank, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Government of Maharashtra, Government of Uttaranchal, Hutch, Keltron, Merryl Lynch, National Thermal Power Corporation, NIIT, Tata Energy Research Institute, Western Geeco etc.

Iris Computers Ltd, was set up in 1996, and represents technology companies like Compaq, HP, IBM, Acer, Philips, Mototrola, BenQ, i-Digital, SonicWall, and Microsoft. It is the largest distributor for IBM in North India since last four-and-a-half years. It has projected a turnover $90 million for the year 2005.
