Japanese automobile giant Honda Motor Co has recalled 90,210 diesel vehicles in India to replace their fuel return pipe starting from 19 December, according to the company's statement issued on Thursday.

Included in recall are 64,428 units of diesel variants of flagship model Honda City manufactured between December 2013 to July 2015 and 25,782 units of diesel variants of multi-purpose vehicle Honda Mobilio manufactured from June 2014 to July 2015.

''There is a possibility that in some of these cars, the fuel return pipe may come out, resulting in fuel leakage and leading to engine stoppage,'' Honda Cars India said in the statement.

The company would replace the fuel return pipe and related parts at its own cost and all car owners would be contacted by HCIL dealerships network across India from 19th December 2015 for the resolution of the issue, in a phased manner.

In July 2012, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) initiated a voluntary policy under which automobile manufacturers in India would be forced to recall vehicles on safety issues. With this the recalls by the company in India have crossed 1.7 million units.

Customers need to submit their 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on a special microsite created by the company to check whether their car is covered under the campaign.

With the latest recall, being Honda's fourth in India, the total vehicles recalled has increased to nearly 3.3 lakh units.

In October, the company had recalled 3,879 units of the City to update the CVT control.

The company had, in September, recalled 223,578 cars to replace air bag inflators, and in May, 575 units of the CRV. In the same moth, 10,805 Accords were also recalled to replace air bag inflators.
