Hero MotoCorp rides solo to record sales in 2011; Oct-Dec profit zooms 43 %

Hero MotoCorp, the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, today reported its highest-ever sales for a calendar year - the first full year of its solo ride after splitting with its former Japanese partner Honda Motors.

The company sold record 6,117,599 two-wheelers in the calendar year (January-December 2011), a growth of 19.2 per cent over the calendar year of 2010 when it sold 5,134,549 units.

Sales during December 2011 stood at 540,276 units, a growth of 7.8 per cent over the corresponding month of the previous year when the company sold 501,111 units.

Net profit for the October-December 2011-12 quarter stood at Rs613 crore compared with Rs429 crore in the year-ago quarter.

Total sales rose to Rs5,984 crore during the quarter compared with Rs5,118 core in the year-ago period.

For the fiscal third quarter (October-December 2011-12), the company sold 15,89,276 units, an increase of 11.3 per cent over the corresponding quarter in FY'11, when the company sold 14,28,030 units.
