Google Carousel to make sifting through mobile search results easier

With the addition of a new carousel to the search results page on mobile, Google now lets users easily scan recent articles and videos about the topics they are searching.

The new feature, available on Google.com in English for now, essentially groups the results together by source, to allow users to choose the best suggestion with the least amount of clicks.

The announcement by the search giant about the carousel came last week. The carousel makes sifting through search results less time- consuming.

Ardan Arac, Google Search product manager, wrote in a blog post, ''Whether you're looking for the latest clips from The Daily Show, news about the possibility of Greece leaving the Eurozone, or highlights from today's Panthers game, it can be hard to sift through all the great videos, articles, and more out there to find what interests you. Now, if you search on Google on your mobile, you'll see the freshest, most relevant content from within a single website grouped together in one easy-to-scan place.''

When users perform a mobile device search, they would now get what Google called a carousel of all relevant links, whether they were videos, articles or photos. All users needed to do was tap whatever link they were interested in and the carousel would organise results together by online source.

Meanwhile, Wall Street OTC reported that the new feature was only accessible on Google in English and just for US clients for the time being.

The option means users would need to filter less through the numerous irrelevant indexed results that show up when looking for a particular topic. For instance, if users looked for NPR they would now get a carousel with links to all NPRs recent articles and video clips.

Currently some users might not spot the new feature for some of their favourite webpages as Google's carousel supported only new websites and videos. However, according to the tech company it was going to introduce extra carousels for all webpages in the near future.

To demonstrate how the new feature worked, Google proposed that clients do a search for the academy awards / Oscars. By swiping on right and left, news and features from the Academy Awards would be displayed into a spinning news feed and clients could choose any link to read or watch the videos they were looking for.

An alternate way to test the feature will be searching for Apple, or iOS gadgets. This will show a carrousel of web content, but the index will only be provided from one news webpage.
