Google acquires start-up email management software provider Sparrow

Internet search giant Google has acquired Sparrow, a French start-up that provides email management software for Apple's platforms.

"Now we're joining the Gmail team to accomplish a bigger vision -- one that we think we can better achieve with Google," Dom Leca, chief executive of Sparrow, said in an announcement posted on the company's website.

''We're excited to announce that Sparrow has been acquired by Google!

''We care a lot about how people communicate, and we did our best to provide you with the most intuitive and pleasurable mailing experience.

''Now we're joining the Gmail team to accomplish a bigger vision - one that we think we can better achieve with Google.'' Arrow said in its web site release.

The company did not provide financial details of the deal.
