Google is preparing to wash its hands off its $182-million acquisition of Slide as it shifts its social networking efforts to Google+.

According to AllThingsD, the social apps company would be dissolved and Slide founder and Google VP Max Levchin would be leaving the company as a consequence.

''Max has decided to leave Slide and Google to pursue other opportunities, and we wish him the best,'' a Google spokesperson said in a statement.

''Most of the team from Slide will remain at Google to work on other opportunities.''

Google has, meanwhile, decided to discontinue most of Slide products other than social contest site Prizes.org.

The company was founded by Levchin in 2005 after selling his last company, PayPal, to eBay, and at the height of its popularity, Slide was a leader in social networking with apps such as FunWall, Fortune Cookie and SuperPoke.

However, the likes of Zynga left it behind as its influence wanted. In August 2008, it was taken over by Google as part of its efforts to catch up with Facebook.
