General Motors India (GMI) has issued a voluntary recall of 1.55 lakh units of Chevrolet Spark, Beat and Enjoy, manufactured between 2007 and 2014, to address a remote keyless entry accessory issue.

''Quality is our highest priority and we are committed to putting customers at the centre of everything we do. If there is a potential issue, we ensure that it is corrected as soon as possible as part of our complete commitment to customer satisfaction,'' said Arvind Saxena, president and managing director, GMI,General Motors India.

The company is notifying customers individually about the recall and also, when to bring in their vehicles for inspection and correction.

Alternatively, customers can also contact their nearest Chevrolet dealership and schedule an appointment for vehicle inspection and correction.

The affected vehicles will be repaired free of charge at GMI's 257 service centers across the country, it said.

Founded in 1911 in Detroit, Chevrolet sells in about 4.8 million cars and trucks a year globally.

The Chevrolet portfolio in India includes the Beat, Captiva, Cruze, Enjoy, Sail, Sail Hatchback, Spark and Tavera.

The number of vehicles recalled by the auto manufacturers in India has crossed one million in the last three years, according to data released by Autocar Professional.

There have been at least eight recalls by varous manufacturers in the six months from January to June 2015, which includes 60,000 Mahindra XUV5OOs (for upgrade of side curtain airbag software) and 33,098 Maruti Suzuki India Altos (for inspection and replacement of right hand door latch assembly).

In May, Honda recalled three models – Accord, CR-V and Civic - while Nissan Motor India recalled Sunny and Micra last year.

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM's) had come out with a voluntary code on vehicle recall, advocating manufacturers voluntarily recall a defective two-wheeler or four-wheeler from the market. The code came into effect in July 2012.
