General Electric (GE) is planning to expand its India operations with 30 new products being rolled out in the energy and healthcare space over the next three years.

The technology giant is also looking at significantly enhanced sourcing from the country, a key company official said today.

The company has launched 30 products in India in the last two years and is looking to introduce a similar number by 2015, Gopichand Katragadda, GE's technology head in India, said.

GE, which currently employs about 6,000 engineers and scientists, said, 20 per cent of this workforce would be engaged in India-specific programmes.

GE is increasing product localisation in India, Katragadda said, adding, "We would like to do that much more."

The company is looking to source large castings and forgings for which it sees "big need", he said.
