Flipkart is taking on its key rival Amazon with the launch on 15 August of a no-fee, points-based customer loyalty programme, which will ensure free and faster delivery of products.

This is the second such customer loyalty programme being launched by Flipkart. Last September, it had launched a similar programme, which however, failed to take off successfully.
With international retail major Walmart acquiring a majority stake in Flipkart, it is likely to take on ambitious projects to tackle its American rival Amazon.
According to a Flipkart spokesman, customers will earn Plus points every time they buy something on its platform. As they earn more points, customers can redeem them with benefits including those from companies like Hotstar, Zomato, Makemytrip and Café Coffee Day.
Customers from other Flipkart group companies including Phone-Pe and Myntra can also avail of the new Flipkart Plus privileges.
Flipkart Plus will be in competition with Amazon Prime, which has helped the company increase its sales. Amazon Prime now accounts for nearly a third of its total orders.
The annual subscription for Amazon Prime is Rs999, but members enjoy a lot of benefits including free and fast deliveries, video on its Prime channel and free music.
