Online retailer Flipkart has ventured into furniture segment, offering over 10,000 small and large furniture products, which include sofas, beds, tables and several other items.
Customers can now order these from Flipkar's Home category.
Flipkart will now be competing with other online furniture players such as Urban Ladder and Pepperfry.
The products now available online are in the price range of Rs2,000 to Rs1.5 lakh.
Flipkart has tied up with home retailers such as HomeTown, Durian, @Home and Homestop along with regional sellers across India.
For the present, large pieces of furniture will only be available for customers in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, while other cities will have to wait for some time, Flipkart said.
There is a Rs1,40,000 crore furniture market in the country, but the market is highly fragmented with no market leaders to cater to the varied needs of the consumer.
It is an ensemble of different manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers at present.
An online market place would be better equipped to organize these manufacturers and sellers to better cater to the market needs.
Flipkart expects furniture to become one of the major drivers for its home category. Flipkart aims to introduce more selection and brands and scale up furniture for customers to shop from over the years.
