Bangalore: Ford India said Monday it had achieved best monthly sales performance ever in the month of January 2011, selling 10,026 units. This compares to 2453 units sold in Jan 2010, marking a four-fold increase.

Sales of more than 10,000 units in a single month also allow Ford to cross its previous milestone of 9,478 units sold in March 2010.

Ford's dramatic upturn of fortunes in the Indian market is owed primarily to the charms of their latest model, the Figo. Sales of Figo hit an all-time monthly high, with more than 8,600 units sold in Jan 2011.

This marks the best monthly sales performance for the Figo since its launch in March 2010.

"2010 was a landmark year for us, with Ford nearly tripling its annual sales volume. Now we've begun 2011 with record-setting January sales. We have carried the momentum of last year's terrific performance into the new year by crossing the 10,000-unit sales mark," said Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India.

"We are constantly fine-tuning our performance for maximum growth, and this is just the beginning of what I anticipate will be an incredible year for the company," he added.

Boneham also said that the company was extremely happy to see the Figo's acceptance among Indians and its winning so many prestigious awards in the automobile industry.
