Hyderabad: Electronics Corporation of India(ECIL), pioneers of the indigenous electronics revolution in India, has announced the deployment of its state-of art electronic toll collection system (ETC) which will change the toll collection process by bringing in transparency and aid trouble-free operations.

ECIL has also announced winning 4.0 crore worth of orders for its ETC from the Andhra Pradesh Transport Department and Rewa Toll Ways of Madhya Pradesh road projects.

Vehicles passing the toll gate will first pass through a piezo sensor system on the highway just before the toll gate. This system will electronically classify the vehicle; capture /companies/companies_e/Electronics_Corporation/images of the vehicle, calculate and print the exact toll amount to be paid, thus eliminating pilferage, ot disputes over the toll amount.

More significantly, Road Transport Office (RTO) authorities will have access to information / transactions as ETC at the toll collection centers can be connected to regulatory authorities, facilitating e-governance.

The electronic toll collection system comprising a toll collection and smart card reader (TCS), vehicle counting and classification system (VCS) image grabbing system, connected to a host computer which collects data from VCS and TCS, smart card issuing system and weigh in motion system, will bring in transparency to the toll collection process as the entire operation will now be automated and information including image grabbing of vehicles (through CCTV) is captured, documented, retrieved and audited at the touch of a button.

Commenting on the occasion. G P Srivastava, chairman and managing director, ECIL, said "while ECIL is focused in aiding the atomic and defence establishments, our technical strength enables us to develop products that have changed the way of life around us - like the electronic voting machine. We are confident that ETC will also change the system of functioning of the toll process and it will find its use in various other related fields."
