BRIC nations boost Mercedes-Benz global sales in August

German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz posted double-digit growth for the tenth month in a row in August boosted by high volume sales in BRIC countries.

The German luxury car maker of the Mercedes, Daimler said in a statement that it had sold 81,000 units last month, a 22-per cent rise from the 66,200 units sold in the same month in 2009.

Since the beginning of the year, the Stuttgart-based Mercedes-Benz has sold 735,400 passenger cars, an increase of 16 per cent from the same period in 2009.

In the BRIC countries of China, Russia, India and Brazil, Mercedes-Benz continues to perform well with more than doubling its sales in China including Hong Kong, by achieving a 113 per cent increase in August to 13,400 passenger vehicles compared to 6,300 units sold in 2009 for the same reporting month.

Sales in India increased by 91 per cent, Russia by 63 per cent and Brazil 48 per cent.

But sales in South Korea showed a sudden surge in August, where Mercedes-Benz boosted sales by 188 per cent to1,600 vehicles.
