Chennai: The Rs 274-crore-turnover computer hardware company D-Link India is hopeful of exporting structured cabling products to its major shareholder, D-Link Corporation, Taiwan, for its other markets. The Indian company now exports structured cabling to the Middle East and SAARC countries.

Says D-Link (India) sales director Prabodh Vyas: “D-Link Corporation is evaluating such a proposal and a decision is expected soon.“ The company earns around 10 per cent of its revenue from structured cabling products. The products that are under consideration are patch panel, fibre cables, jack panel and I/O device.

The Indian company is also planning to focus on developing new technologies for routers, a product that D-Link Corporation is not focussing here. “The routers market here is around Rs 700 crore and we seriously intend to develop new technologies,“ adds Vyas.

D-Link recently launched six new products in the domain of enterprise networking, wireless LAN for long distance (up to 25 kms), storage products, firewall (network security product), Cat6 (a new technology in structured cabling), voice-over-Internet protocol (VOIP) and internetworking.

Vyas says the launch of these products has thrown open a Rs 1,000-crore opportunity for D-Link India. “The total Indian network product market size is estimated at Rs 2,000 crore, and D-Link, before the new launches, was in the middle- and small-office network product market whose size is estimated at Rs 1,000 crore. The six new products will target large corporates and today, D-Link India is the only hardware company in India to have a product for all the networking needs.“

The company, in the meantime, has approved the buyback of its fully-paid equity shares with a face value of Rs 2 for not exceeding Rs 16 crore. The per-share maximum price is fixed at Rs 80.
