Creative Technology Ltd., the leading provider of multimedia products for personal entertainment, has announced that its Sound Blaster line of audio products has surpassed the 100 million mark in number of units shipped worldwide. This coincides with the tenth anniversary of the product line's launch.

More than 60 percent of all PC audio systems have, according to industry analyst estimates, been built using Creative''s Sound Blaster technology, becoming more or less, the industry standard in PC audio.

"In a highly competitive Information Technology market, there are very few high-tech products that last more than a few years. Ten years is definitely a very long life-span for such products like the Sound Blaster. To be able to ship over 100 million units of Sound Blaster demonstrates Creative's continued commitment to meet and exceed the needs of its consumers over a long period of time," said Sim Wong Hoo, founder and chief executive officer of Creative Technology Ltd. "Creative has spent the last decade working closely with its customers to produce generation after generation of exceptional audio cards. Having hit this amazing milestone, it is clear that the Sound Blaster will continue to extend its legacy for many more generations to come."

Sound Blaster was launched ten years ago at Comdex Fall 1989. The latest Sound Blaster Live! Platinum line – the seventh generation of Sound Blaster – received rave reviews from both gaming and mainstream media.

To celebrate Sound Blaster's 10th anniversary, Creative showcased Sound Blaster Live! Platinum during its live theater presentations at COMDEX Fall 1999, between November 15 and 19 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
