Crompton Greaves to build 765/400 KV Substation at Unnao, in UP

Crompton Greaves Limited will build a 765/400 kV sub station at Unnao, in Uttar Pradesh on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. This is the highest operating voltage level in India so far, and the Rs302-crore project is scheduled to be commissioned by July 2011.
 
Ina  press release, Crompton Greaves said that Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation is the first state utility in the country to enter into 765 kV arena for power transmission.

The scope of the project includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of eight bays of 765 kV and two bays of 400kV, along with seven  333 MVA (single phase) 765/400 kV power transformers and another seven 110 MVAR, single phase, 765 kV shunt reactors and four 63 single phase MVAR 765 kV reactors.

"The project is of strategic importance for entry into market of 765 kV substations globally", the release said as it widens the market for the compaqny's entire product range.

Since its inception, CG has been synonymous with electricity. In 1875, a Crompton 'dynamo' powered the world's very first electricity-lit house in Colchester, Essex, UK.

The history of Crompton Greaves began in 1878 when Col. R E B Crompton founded R E BCrompton & Company.

The company merged with F.A Parkinson in the year 1927 to form Crompton Parkinson Ltd., (CPL).
