Airtel receives letter of offer to provide 2G, 3G services in Sri Lanka

Mumbai: Telecommunications service provider Bharti Airtel Limited has received a letter of offer from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka to provide 2G and 3G mobile services in Sri Lanka. This will be the first international operation of Bharti Airtel and is in line with the company's plans to expand its telecom operations in the South Asian region.

Says Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman and managing director, Bharti Airtel Limited, "Today, the South Asian region offers tremendous growth opportunities and Sri Lanka is a very promising market for telecom services. Bharti Airtel with its extensive experience and unique business model will strive to offer world-class services at affordable rates to the people of Sri Lanka."

Bharti Global, a subsidiary of Bharti Enterprises, has been operating comprehensive telecom services in Seychelles under the Airtel brand since 1998 and recently launched 3G services in the country. Bharti Global has also been awarded licenses to operate 2G and 3G services in Jersey and Guernsey in Europe.
