New Delhi: Bharti Enterprises is beginning an apex-level strategic structural reorganisation. To begin with Sunil Bharti Mittal has relinquished operational responsibility in Bharti Airtel which he said was aimed at giving a clear-cut responsibility to the managers at Bharti Enterprise, apart from giving him more time to work on strategic interests.

He added: "The lead directors have been given specific businesses for which they will be totally responsible. These directors are like the Cabinet for the Group."

The new structure puts Mittal as chairman and group CEO of Bharti Enterprises - the strategic architect for all businesses. He will be assisted by four group lead directors - Rakesh Bharti Mittal (vice-chairman), Akhil Gupta and Rajan Bharti Mittal (managing directors) and Badri Agarwal (director).

In addition, there will be nine group directors, who have been closely associated with the Mittals over the years.

Rajan Mittal has been taken off the telecom business and will now be Group Lead Director of retail, Wholesale and New Projects. Akhil Gupta will relinquish his position as Group CFO and take charge as group lead director of telecom and chairman of the group finance and audit council.

The new structure will be effective from 1 April.
