Bharti Airtel ties up with Limelight Networks for global CDN services

Bharti Airtel has tied up with US-based Limelight Networks which makes software to help speed delivery of web content, for content delivery network (CDN) services in the Indian market.

Arizona-based Limelight Networks, which reported revenue of $129.5 million in 2008 and expects to achieve $200 million in 2010, is a leading provider of high-performance content delivery network services.

Under the strategic tie-up announced yesterday, Bharti Airtel will be able to provide Indian content producers solutions for the delivery of rich media and enterprise applications, as well as direct access to consumers accessing the internet, and over 900 last mile networks directly connected to Limelight Networks' global platform.

Limelight digitally delivers content for traditional and emerging media companies, or content providers, including businesses operating in the television, music, radio, newspaper, magazine, movie, videogame and software industries.

Its streaming Media provides on-demand streaming for all major formats including Adobe Flash, MP3 audio, QuickTime, RealNetworks RealPlayer and Windows Media.

Bharti and Limelight will set up 2 new CDN points of presence (PoP) in Mumbai and Chennai, which will add to Airtel's existing network infrastructure that enables it access to undersea cables via international cable landing stations at these two cities, according to Ajay Chitkara, CEO, Global Data Business, Bharti Airtel.
