Apple plans to launch a low-cost iPhone running on iO7 that would be offered for $99.

The company is reportedly looking at iPhones with bigger screens and would launch the low-cost phone in a range of colours as soon as this year, according to an ABC News report.

The report added that Apple declined to comment on the rumours, but the question of larger screens was addressed by CEO Tim Cook at the "All Things D" conference.

Cook also said the iPhone did not have a larger screen right now for a few reasons, as a large screen today came with a lot of tradeoffs.

He said people did look at the size, but they also considered things like whether photos showed the proper colour, reflectivity, battery life, brightness, and the longevity of the display, among others.

The phone would reportedly come in a plastic casing in five or six different colors. Also in addition to a cheaper iPhone, Apple would also be expected to unveil iPhone 5S later this year. iPhone 5S would come as an updated version of iPhone 5 which was unveiled in September last year.

The next version of the software for the iPhone would be radically different than past versions according to commentators.

According to Zach Epstein, executive editor, bgr.com, though it was widely known that Apple's next-generation iPhone 5S was getting an extensive internal overhaul following the site's exclusive report  last month, from the purported components that had leaked, it had become evident that several internal design changes had been made.

Mobile accessory and component retailer TVC-Mall on Friday posted images and details surrounding two new parts it claimed were included in Apple's upcoming iPhone 5S. The first was the ''dock connector charging port flex cable,'' which also included the handset's headphone jack, while the second was listed as a ''replacement ringer speaker Dock connector module.'' Claims by the retailer in similar posts in the past had proven authentic once Apple released the associated devices.
