Alstom T&D India secures Rs161-cr order from Power Grid

news
20 March 2014

Alstom T&D India has secured a 20.1 million (Rs161 crore) contract from Power Grid for the extension of air-insulated substations (AIS) at 14 sites across five Indian states, and 765 kV reactors at Bhiwani. The expansion will reduce transmission line overloading and improve grid stability in North India.

The turnkey project covers design, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 765 kV, 400 kV and 220 kV AIS equipment, 765 kV reactors for Bhiwani and 50 MVAR shunt reactor for one of the substations, all with civil works. The equipment for the project will be manufactured at Alstom T&D India's manufacturing facilities across India.

''Over 50 per cent of India's 765kV extra-high voltage substations are built with Alstom technology and solutions, demonstrating Alstom T&D India's significant contribution to the transmission backbone of the country. This prestigious and challenging project reaffirms our leadership position in the 765 kV turnkey substation market,'' Rathin Basu, managing director of Alstom T&D India, said.

Alstom will upgrade transmission substations at 14 sites across five states, and reactors at Bhiwani in Haryana.

Substations to be upgraded include 765/400 kV at Bhiwani and 400/220 kV substations at Hissar, Allahabad, Kanpur, Singrauli, Kota, Koteshwar, Rajpura, Panchkula, Patiala, Dhuri, Makhu, Mukstar and Nakodar in the northern region of the country. The 765/400 kV Bhiwani switchyard is centrally connected and feeds power to the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh; this strengthens the Haryana state transmission system and ensures a secure, reliable supply of power across North India.

Earlier, in 2012, Alstom T&D India had successfully commissioned three switchyard bays, of 765 kV and 400 kV each, at Bhiwani in record time under eight months for Power Grid.

Alstom T&D India, a unit of French multinational Alstom, is a market leader in the Indian power transmission sector. Alstom has a strong portfolio of products, solutions and services, comprising the entire range of transmission equipment up to Extra and Ultra High Voltages (765 kV and beyond) including air-insulated switchgear (AIS) and locally manufactured power transformers and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). It also provides power electronics solutions (HVDC, FACTS) to create super highways and offers highly advanced power management Smart Grid solutions for transmission and distribution including renewable energies integration.

The company has over 3,500 employees and eight world class manufacturing units in India.
