Reliance Infra bags Rs11,000-crore Mumbai Metro-II project as well

A consortium of Anil Ambani Group company Reliance Infrastructure and Canadian firm SNC Lavolin has bagged the Rs11,000-crore `Metro line 2' of the Mumbai Metro Project.
The Mumbai Metro-II project, to be built on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis for a concession period of 35 years with an extension clause of another 10 years.
The project, awarded by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) through an international competitive bidding process, is scheduled to be operational by 2015.
The 32-km Mumbai Metro-II line will link Navi Mumbai and the western suburbs of Mumbai, connecting Charkop in the north to Bandra and then to Mankhurd in the east. The metro line will have 27 stations en-route.
Reliance Infrastructue is also developing Mumbai Metro-I (Versova - Andheri - Gatkopar corridor) as also Delhi Airport Express Line (New Delhi Station - International Airport - Dwarka), the company said.
"We are happy to win Mumbai Metro-II, which is the third metro project that RInfra has won in a row. We are confident of developing this project within 5 years from the date of financial closure. By 2015, when both our Mumbai metro projects are operational, about 15 per cent of Mumbaikars would be commuting daily by metro train," Lalit Jalan, CEO and whole-time director of Reliance Infrastructure, said.
"The concession agreement would be signed within 45 days of the issue of letter of award. The financial closure would be achieved within nine months of signing of the concession agreement," he added.
Reliance Infra's Mumbai Metro-I project is slated for completion by September 2010, 18 months ahead of schedule.
