Infosys’ to invest Rs425 cr in its biggest Indian campus at Mohali

Technology bellwether Infosys is setting up its biggest campus in India with a capacity of 15,000 employees, at Mohali in Punjab, with initial investment of Rs425 crore.
This is among the three new campuses on which Infosys has commenced work , with the other two being at Indore in MP and and Nagpur in Maharashtra
The MP campus at the Indore Super Corridor, inaugurated on Monday will be spread over 130 acres of land allocated by the Government of Madhya Pradesh and will see construction undertaken in phases.
In the first phase of construction, the company will make an investment of Rs335 crore to create a built-up area of 7 lakh sq. ft. to seat 5,000 software professionals. Phase I of this state-of-the-art facility is likely to be completed in the next 24 months.
The Nagpur campus at Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN), SEZ will be spread over 142 acres of land allocated by the Government of Maharashtra and will see construction undertaken in phases.
In the first phase of construction, the company will make an investment of Rs475 crore to create a built-up area of 9.5 lakh sq. ft. to seat 5,000 software professionals. Phase I of this state-of-the-art facility is likely to be completed in the next 24 months.
Though the Mohali campus of Infosys is coming up on only 50 acres of land allotted by the Punjab government as a Special Economic Zone for IT/ITES units in Mohali, it will have the highest capacity.
Under the first phase of the project, involving an investment of about Rs425 crore, Infosys would create a facility with built-up area of 6.5 lakh sq ft, capable of employing 5,000 software professionals. This is expected to be completed in the next 36 months.
Infosys chairman N R Narayana Murthy said work on the Mohali campus would commence from 1 October this year after necessary SEZ approval.
Infosys' earlier 30-acre campus at Chandigarh has a built-up area of 11.3 lakh sq feet and employees 6,000 employees. The company has invested Rs332 crore on this campus and the current annual turnover from the development centre is around Rs1,500 crore.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government is sending a team led by the chief secretary to the Infosys headquarters at Bengaluru for studying the scope of giving skill training to the state's youth, especially the people in villages.
Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal took the decision at a meeting with Infosys chairman NR Narayana Murthy on Saturday evening.
The rural business process outsourcing (BPO) scheme of the nationalised banks has become a source of employment generation for rural youth and the Rajasthan government has already implemented the model already, Murthy pointed out.
