Railways to allow passengers to transfer their reservations

Those holding confirmed railway reservations, can now transfer their reservation to family member or any other person by requesting for such a transfer 24 members in advance, subject to certain conditions. 

According to read an official statement by the Indian railways, ''Chief Reservation Supervisor of important stations are authorised by Railway Administration to permit the change of name of a passenger having a seat or berth reserved in his name.''

According to the Indian Railway guidelines, any passenger can make a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train that the reservation made in his name may be transferred to another member of his family, meaning, father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband and wife.

For government servants travelling on duty, an appropriate authority can make the request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of trains for the reservation to be transferred to another person in whose name the reservation is sought.

If the passengers are students of a recognised educational institution, the head of the institution must make a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, that the reservation made in the name of the student be transferred to any other student of the same institute.

Passengers travelling in a group like marriage parties, any person deemed to be head of such a group must make a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train that the reservation made in the name of the person be transferred to another person.

For passengers like a group of cadets of National Cadet Corps, any officer who is the head of the group can make a request in writing at least 24 hours before the departure of the train that the reservation made in the name of any cadet be transferred to any other cadet.

The Railways also said that such requests for change will be granted only once.

In case of group travellers students, marriage party and NCC cadets, the request for change in excess of 10 per cent of the total strength of group will not be granted.
