The Railways as announced the creation of a dedicated counter for ticket cancellation at the existing passenger reservation facilities of various railway stations, making it easier for passengers to make last-minute cancellations as well.

Accordingly, Railways has converted one of the counters meant for unreserved ticket bookings at the existing ticket reservation centres into UTS-cum-PSR (unreserved ticketing system-cum-Passenger Reservation System) counter only for cancellation and refund of PRS.

Cancellation and refund of PRs counter tickets will be made across the earmarked UTS-cum-PRS counter (only for refund of PRS counter tickets) beyond the working hours of existing PRS counters or current counters as per refund rules.

If the current counters are not available at the station or a PRS counter is closed for the mandated period, then tickets booked through PRS counters may be cancelled and refund may be availed through such dedicated facilities, it said.

This facility, however, will be available for the tickets of those trains whose scheduled departure time is within 24 hours from the time of cancellation of tickets, the railways said.

In cases where current counters are not available at the station or no PRS counter is working beyond the working hours of PRS counters PRS counter tickets may be cancelled and refund may be granted across such nominated UTS cum PRS counter.

However, such refund will not be granted across UTS-cum-PRS counter during the working hours of PRs or current counters of a particular station.

Cancellation ticket will not be issued in this case and original tickets will be retained by counter clerk as is being retained at PRS counter for accounting purpose. No UTS roll will be utilised for this purpose.

However, if on one PNR all the passengers (say 6 passengers) have confirmed accommodation and out of 6 passengers two passengers do not want to travel and cancel the same in that case new tickets will have to be issued. For such tickets the printer of existing PRS counters may be utilized.

If the passenger has already provided mobile number, SMS on the registered mobile number will be sent for refunded amount. Passenger will also be asked to provide the mobile number in the cancellation form during the time of cancellation to send the SMS for refunded amount. Adequate number of cancellation forms will be made available at such counters.

These are being implemented from 1 December 2015.
