Government-owned  India Post today unveiled a new logo, as part of its image makeover and to give the postal service a corporate look. The new corporate logo in red and yellow, designed by Oglivy & Mather, was unveiled by minister of communication and information technology A Raja along with the minister of state, Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Raja said that the new logo reflected the department's new approach towards business, which is looking at a major revamping process. The department would soon acquire more aircraft to carry letters, parcels and logistic consignments for making overnight delivery in major cities and towns. The department would also introduce a host of new services that would benifit its customers, said Raja..

Major technology initiatives willbe implemented for the postal department that include faster automatic mail processing systems; hand-held devices for postmen to capture and transmit signatures of addressees digitally; establish mechanised hubs to process parcels efficiently; and build logistics and warehousing centres for providing supply chain solutions to the businesses.

As part of the renovation plan, the interiors of the post offices have also undergone a change. The existing India Post logo, designed in 1995 with the help of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, was changed because of the rapid transformation in the Indian economy and the need to create a newer and more energetic feel for India Post, said the minister.

Raja said the communications ministry is also planning to introduce a mail regulatory and development authority,  a regulator for India Post, whose function will be related to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

India Post would continue to maximise its network, especially in the rural areas, by making post offices a one-stop shop for communication, distribution and retail solutions, he added.
